John was born and raised in Nashville, TN. Pig pickins were treasured events and pulled pork or "barbecue" as they called it, was an almost sacred experience. John moved as a young man to Houston, Tx where he was introduced to brisket. He loved it but longed for the traditional bbq of his home. A couple years later his family relocated to Charlotte, NC and he quickly embraced the Lexington and Eastern NC bbq. John then joined the Navy and was exposed to flavors and creations from far and wide and has learned how to incorporate those delicasies into his bbq offerings. Working under the name Big John's BBQ, he spent a few years as a food vendor at Charlotte Motor Speedway, at Quail Hollow PGA golf tournament (Wells Fargo) among other venues, numerous festivals and has operated a private catering business for several years.

A true Tejano, Marco was born and raised in Houston, TX. Of Hispanic heritage, Marco was raised on the traditions of Mexican and Texmex cuisine. Marco brings a unique culinary palate to Killer Q's menu offerings. He moved to Baytown,Tx where he honed and refined his bbq techniques before relocating to Charlotte, NC in 2007.  Marco began cooking in local and regional BBQ Cookoffs in NC and SC, then after partnering with another competitor, began a successful catering and cooking enterprise known as Texalina Cookers where he fused the flavors of South Texas with the NC styles of bbq.  Marco continues to bring a competitive edge and drive to our cooking competitions and helps to inspire and motivate us along our journey.
